First Grade Field Trip

O.K., I know that's not very creative title, lately my creative juices have dried up.
But, Creative or not... I was so happy when Caleb's teacher called to ask if I could go to the Pumpkin Patch with her class. Each teacher could only invite one parent to ride the bus on the field trip so, I was pretty lucky to get to go!
We went to the Willis farm in Snowflake, where all the kids got to choose their very own pumkin. Each child was given a string to measure their pumkin with and once they found just the right one, I got to help them cut it off the vine and put their name on it and bag it. It was great that the ENTIRE first grade went, so I could be there with Eliza and Sarah too.
The Trio sure know how to pick 'em. We'll have a great time carving the Pumkins for Halloween.

After going to the pumkin patch we went to the park to play and have a picnic lunch. It was a beautiful day! We all had such a wonderful time!

Go Green !!!!

Caleb and Eliza had their first soccer game yesterday !  They did so GREAT!!  Caleb was a great goalie and he was super fast out on the field. Eliza had a blast kicking the ball around and was a great goalie as well. Sarah didn't want to play this year. She was the sweetest cheerleader at the park.
Adam and I enjoyed watching the kids play.

The "Green team" won 3-0 ! GO Green !!!!  It was a fun game to watch.

Burrrrrr! It was way to cold for the rest of us, but the girls had a blast!

About a month ago during Family Home Evening we talked about talents, and the importance of developing and sharing our talents with others.  I encouraged each of the kids make something using their talents, and enter it at the County Fair.

Eliza has been interested in photography lately, so I let her borrow my camera. She took a great picture of  Millie and we entered it and she won a Third place ribbon!!!! Yay Eliza!

Sarah decided she wanted to use some of her beads to make a necklace that she could submit at the fair. She worked very hard on it and it took her a while. The result was a beautiful princess necklace that also won a third place ribbon! Yay Sarah!

Caleb took a while to decide what he wanted to do. He thought his only talent was bike riding, and we couldn't quite figure out how to submit bike riding as an entry. Hmm..what could he do. When I asked him about some of his other interests he said that he did like to make paper airplanes and stuff. I suggested he build a model rocket. He loved the idea and he got right to work on a kit. He got it all put together, painted it entered it......and won FIRST PLACE!!! A Blue ribbon for Caleb! All right!

 

I am so proud of all of them! They are already trying to decide what to do for next years fair!

While at the fair we had a blast riding a train, eating yummy food, seeing great exhibits, watching a reptile 

show and a magic act! 

The kids also wanted to climb "Spider Mountain".  They all made it all the way to the TOP!! Way to go guys! (We saw an older boy chicken out less than half way up) I just had to throw that in cause I like braggin' about my kids and their awesomeness!

 

Give a Day Get a Day!

Earlier this year I got a call from my Sister -in -law Heather. She told me that Disneyland had a promotion going on where if you give a day of service, you get a free ticket to Disneyland. She said her family was doing it and if we did, we could go to Disneyland together! It sounded like fun so I told her to count us in!
For our service, we signed up with an organization called Treasures for Teachers and put together kits for teachers. We filled boxes with all kinds of supplies like stickers, pens, post-its, markers, paperclips, etc...Oh, and I threw in some chocolate! We added some hand made thank you cards, wrapped them up pretty and then delivered them to the "drop off place".  It wasn't long before we got our vouchers for our "Disney Day"!

We were able to redeem those vouchers this past week. Heather made matching shirts for all the kids. They looked so cute and were so excited to be together at the "Happiest Place on Earth"!

Instead of me rambling on about every fun adventure we had, I'm just going to post a bunch of pictures.  Have fun looking at them. We sure had fun at Disney land!

Best Day Ever!

HELP!!

I was experimenting with my blog, now I want it back the way It was!!!!
 I did want it wider, but I dont know how to get rid of the gray border. I also don't like the way things aren't centered. Grrrr....I hate when I can't figure things out.

Then Sings My Soul.....

For the first time in quite a while, Adam had a Saturday off of work. We wanted to do something fun with the kids, but we were having a hard time deciding what to do.

Buggy ride? ...We always do that.
Swimming?...Too crowded.
Movies?... Nothing good showing.
Ride bikes at the park?...Too hot.

We were about to give up. Then Adam and I heard an add on the radio...THAT'S IT!!! We Knew exactly what to do!

We did all of our chores as fast as we could, then we all piled in the car and away we went.
We wanted the activity to be a surprise for the kids, but we did give them some clues.

Clue #1 : Hold on to your seats.
Clue #2 : It has nothing to do with corn.  (We've been up to our "ears" in corn lately and frankly we needed a little break from it.)
Clue #3 : You'll see trees in a whole new way.
Clue #4 : It's past Show Low, but before Green's Peek.
Clue #5 : You're going to have to trust us!

Ha! We had them stumped. They were really starting to get on edge. After all, they cleaned their play room, worked in the garden and cleaned their bedrooms. But  for all they knew, we were taking them to run errands in White River.

Finally, we turned off the main highway towards Sunrise Ski Resort, and by the time we pulled into the parking lot, they had figured it out. We were going to ride up to the top of the mountain on the ski lift. They were SO up for it. I can't tell you how many times they told us that it was the best day of thier lives! 

The weather was amazing.  Partly cloudy skies with a cool breeze = Perfect day!
The kids had no trouble hopping on the chair lift (we all fit on one together). Up, up the mountain we went. It was so quiet and relaxing on the ride. As we looked around at the natural beauty that surrounded us we couldn't help but be awed by, and grateful for this earth. 

"...When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze,
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee,
How great thou art!...."

Of course, the best view of all was the one from the top.

We hiked around and got a snack at the restaurant there. Then it started raining a little bit and it was getting cold so we hopped in the lift and headed back down the mountain. It stopped raining on the way down and we were having so much fun, so we asked if we could keep riding. They were happy to let us (there was hardly anyone there) so we went back up the mountain, then down then up and down again. On the last ride we really got wet from the rain and we were just too cold to keep riding so we reluctantly got off.

We decided that we have a new summer tradition. We'll definitely be back next year.

***The Sunrise ski resort offers scenic lift rides 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Saturdays and Sundays from  Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.  It costs $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids up to 12 years old. (I think senior citizens are $5.00 too, but I'm not positive)  SO worth it! ***
